CGPA to percentage

Convert a 10-point CGPA to a percentage. Every university uses its own formula; choose the one printed on your marksheet or the back of your degree.

German grade for Germany

Many German universities convert foreign marks with the "Modified Bavarian Formula". In Germany 1.0 is the best grade and 4.0 the lowest pass.

100 for a percentage, 10 for a CGPA. Your university's pass mark, such as 40 or 4. Check your marksheet.

Formula: grade = 1 + 3 × (maximum − your mark) ÷ (maximum − pass mark)

4.0 GPA for the US and Canada

There is no single official formula to turn an Indian percentage into a US 4.0 GPA. A straight ratio (such as 75% = 3.0) often gives the wrong picture, so we do not show such a number.

Many US and Canadian universities ask for a credential evaluation from an agency such as WES. WES's free iGPA calculator estimates a GPA from your subject-wise marks.

Before you apply, check on each university's website which evaluation it accepts.

Which formula is right

There is no single national CGPA-to-percentage formula. Each university sets its own and often prints it on the marksheet or the back of the degree. Use that one; do not put an estimated formula in an application.

Conversion certificate

Many universities issue an official CGPA-to-percentage certificate on request. Foreign universities trust this most, so ask your college examination office about it before applying.

Why the grade matters in Germany

German universities often set a minimum grade, such as "2.5 or better". The Modified Bavarian Formula lets you see in advance where your profile stands. Remember that in Germany a lower grade is better.

Frequently asked questions

Is this converter official?

No. It gives you an estimate. The official value is your university's conversion certificate and the decision of the foreign university or evaluation agency.

Where do I find the pass mark?

On your marksheet, degree or your university's examination rules. It differs between universities and courses.

Why is there no US GPA number?

There is no single official formula from an Indian percentage to a US GPA, and a wrong number can mislead you. The free calculator of an evaluation agency such as WES gives a better estimate.
